What You’ll Get to Do:

The Storage Area Network (SAN) engineer is responsible for maintaining and administering all aspects of the Storage Area Network with the customer’s datacenter. The candidate will be providing data storage and archiving services in 24x7x365 operational environment. Candidate will be working in a SAN environment.

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Develop and recommend storage and virtual solutions, improvements, standards and internal processes to efficiently and cost effectively meet the technology needs of our internal users.

  • Provide top level technical support for all internal technology users of storage and virtual solutions and related infrastructure.

  • Propose technical changes based upon storage and virtual solutions performance and capacity data to ensure cost effective continued fulfillment of internal technology users' needs.

  • Review technical details of outages to services provided by virtual and storage solutions to establish potential impact and future risk to availability of services and recommend course of action to minimize risk of future service outages

  • Evaluate planned technical changes in other MIS areas to solutions which interact with storage and virtual solutions and recommend any necessary actions to ensure continued functionality of storage and virtual solutions for our internal technology users.SAN operational support (Monitoring/Performance)

  • Allocate/de-allocate SAN LUNs

  • Create SAN health reports using NetApp OnCommand Insight (OCI)

  • Install/update firmware and security patching

  • Submit tickets to vendor to troubleshoot problems

  • Provide backup and disaster recovery storage support

Required Skills:

  • Strong working knowledge in basic storage fundamentals with an understanding of major networking concepts

  • Strong working knowledge of many of various vendor storage array technologies in SAN including: Brocade, CISCO, Hitachi, IBM, and NetApp

  • Working knowledge of many of various vendor storage management applications such as NetApp NOM and OCI

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Must be willing to work outside of normal business hours to complete implementations and resolve issues

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • Working knowledge of basic virtualization technologies and implementation

  • Working knowledge of data protection service and support tools/applications such as Symantec NetbackUp

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • 12 Years of job related experience and High School/GED diploma

  • 10 Years of job related experience and Associate degree

  • 8 Years of job related experience and Bachelor’s degree

  • 6 Years of job related experience and Master’s degree

  • 4 Years of job related experience and Doctorate

Certifications:

  • Desirable in one or more of the following: NetApp storage devices , LAN/WAN components, EMC, Hitachi, Encryption, Firewalls, VPN, backup services, OS/Software/Servers, Solaris, Linux, Red Hat, virtualization technologies, networking, SRS (Remedy), Microsoft Office Suite
